STRATEGIC ANGLER NAUTILUS-FS

$ 99.99
Title

The butterfish belongs to the family Stromateidae. Their range extends throughout coastal North America to the outer coast of Nova Scotia and East coasts of Newfoundland. The American butterfish is an important forage species for tunas of the Northeast and are easy prey due to their flat sides and lack the maneuverability. Butterfish prefer to travel in small bands in loosely organized schools making them easy pickings to any hungry predator. The average size is between 5 and 8 inches, and the 6.5” Nautilus series falls right into this range.

The Nautilus series is offered in two buoyancy configurations: slow sinking/suspending, and fast sinking. It features a heavy 2.4 mm wiring system made to withstand the most brutal angling conditions while being in a compact 6.5 inch package. A perfect casting lure weighing 100g and 130g, the Nautilus series is also troll capable up to 4-6 knots.

Technique

The Nautilus-SS and FS can be fished the same way. Both versions respond quite lively with varying rod twitches and various retrieve methods, so do a few practice casts to familiarize yourself on its versatility. Both lures can be walked by twitching the rod tip imparting a side to side zig zag action, keeping the lure in the feeding zone where it is most effective. The occasional long jerk will make the lure kick wildly, making the lure swim like a fleeing baitfish.

The Nautilus lure responds well to all retrieve speeds based on your hook selection. Remember that lighter hooks allow for a livelier imparted action, while heavier and oversize hooks are perfect for trolling on a flat line. This lure can also be used with just a single tail hook and a very slow retrieve. This will cause the lure to undulate randomly from side to side and up and down, so do a few casts with this single tail setup to see how your retrieve speed affects action.

Troll the lure up to 6 knots using the largest hooks possible for stability.
