If you spend any time clamming on Cape Cod, you know that having the right equipment can make the difference between a productive day on the flats and a frustrating workout. Whether you're digging for quahogs, working a favorite clam flat, or heading out during the fall shellfishing season, a dependable rake is one of the most important tools you can own.
That's why Goose Hummock Shops carries the R.A. Ribb Company rake collection, a lineup of handcrafted shellfishing tools made right here on Cape Cod. Known for their toughness and durability, Ribb rakes are designed for people who take their clamming seriously and want equipment they can depend on season after season.
Made on Cape Cod for People Who Know Clamming
Cape Cod has a long tradition of shellfishing. From the shallow flats of Cape Cod Bay to the sheltered waters of local harbors and estuaries, generations of recreational and commercial clammers have relied on the right tools to get the job done.
R.A. Ribb Company understands that tradition. Its shellfishing equipment is handcrafted on Cape Cod for commercial, recreational, and aquaculture use. These are purpose-built tools designed around the demands of harvesting shellfish—not ordinary garden rakes repurposed for the water.
When you're working through sand, mud, and shell-covered bottom, durability matters. You need a rake that can handle repeated use without leaving you worrying about bent teeth, loose components, or a broken tool halfway through the tide.
Why Choose an R.A. Ribb Rake?
Not all clam rakes are created equal. Less expensive alternatives can look similar at first, but the difference becomes apparent when you put them to work in challenging conditions.
The R.A. Ribb collection emphasizes rugged construction and long-term reliability. These tools are designed specifically for shellfishing, where strength and dependable performance are essential.
A quality rake can help you work more confidently, spend less time worrying about your equipment, and get more enjoyment out of your time on the flats. Instead of treating your rake as a disposable purchase, investing in a well-made tool means choosing equipment intended for repeated seasons of use.
For Cape Cod clammers who regularly head out to harvest shellfish, that kind of reliability is worth considering.
Find the Right Rake for Your Style of Clamming
Different shellfishing conditions and techniques call for different tools. The best rake for you depends on the type of shellfish you're harvesting, the bottom you work, and your preferred method.
Whether you're an experienced clammer looking for a dependable everyday tool or a newcomer preparing for your first season, the R.A. Ribb collection offers a place to start when choosing equipment built specifically for shellfishing.
If you're unsure which style best suits your needs, the knowledgeable team at Goose Hummock can help you explore the available options and select a rake suited to your plans.
Don't Let Cheap Equipment Ruin a Great Day on the Flats
Clamming is supposed to be enjoyable. There's something special about working the flats on a falling tide, enjoying the fresh Cape Cod air, and bringing home shellfish for a family meal.
The last thing you want is equipment that bends, breaks, or fails when you're ready to get to work. That's why Goose Hummock focuses on the R.A. Ribb brand rather than filling its shelves with inexpensive rakes that may not stand up to repeated use.
A dependable rake is an investment in better days on the water—and one less thing to worry about when you're out enjoying one of Cape Cod's great outdoor traditions.
